SHRIC - Supporting Human Rights In China
The Pastiche - our version
The Original Commercial
In 2014, Fenix Film, which was our company name at that time, was approached by the non-profit organization SHRIC - Supporting Human Rights in China, with a request to produce a two-minute web presentation. The goal was to shed light on the persecution faced by various groups and minority figures in China. Instead of opting for traditional interviews and storytelling methods, we committed to enhancing the visibility and impact of their critical message.
We decided to create a pastiche of the acclaimed Volvo commercial featuring Zlatan, as a creative means to draw attention. In collaboration with SHRIC, we carefully selected actors for the spoof to ensure an authentic representation. Notably, the scene depicting a Falun Gong practitioner's persecution and torture was based on the true experiences of the actor, who had survived such ordeals at the hands of Chinese prison guards. Similarly, the actor portraying a Tibetan was chosen for his real-life experience of persecution in Tibet, which led him to a perilous escape through the mountains.
